Teaching Improvement Plan

Missouri S&T is committed to maintaining high standards of teaching excellence. The aims of this plan are

  1. to be supportive while setting clear expectations and
  2. provide a structured approach to improvement.

The goal is to help faculty succeed while ensuring that students receive the high-quality education they deserve. Based on department expectations for teaching, the following tool has been developed to facilitate a dialogue between the instructor and the department chair.

While we recognize the complexity of teaching and the various factors that can influence student evaluations and other measures of teaching performance, it is essential to take constructive steps to address the areas where improvement is needed. It is highly recommended that the identification of areas of concern align with SET questions and peer observations.

Two documents have been created to assist in this process:

  • Teaching Improvement Plan Guidelines - this is a place to start. It is an example of how a teaching plan can be written, with ideas of activities that may be included
  • Teaching Improvement Plan Form - this document provides a place to start in the creation of an individual teaching plan. Download and make a copy of this document for your use.

The Teaching Improvement Plan form was created by Dr. Susan Murray, Associate Provost, and endorsed by Faculty Sentate in June 2025.
